Sun Quan, also known as Sun Zhongmou, was a significant figure during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. Born in 182 AD, he inherited control of the territories southeast of the Yangtze River after the deaths of his elder brother, Sun Ce, and his father, Sun Jian.
He established the Kingdom of Wu in 229 AD and reigned as its first emperor. A skilled strategist and administrator, Sun Quan oversaw a period of relative stability and prosperity in his domain. He is credited with improving agriculture and promoting trade, strengthening Wu's economic foundation.
Sun Quan is frequently depicted in historical dramas and films about the Three Kingdoms, often portrayed as a cautious but ultimately capable ruler. His alliance with Liu Bei against Cao Cao at the Battle of Red Cliffs is a pivotal moment in the era, demonstrating his strategic acumen. His reign saw Wu remain a major power, though his later years were marked by internal struggles and succession disputes.
